Why Are We Fascinated By Rich People?

Why Do We Like to Watch Rich People on TV and in the Movies?

A recent Room for Debate post begins, “Several Academy Award contenders like ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ and ‘American Hustle’ glorify white-collar criminals and scammers, and many reality TV shows embrace the wealthy, too. A new series, ‘#RichKids of Beverly Hills,’ is the latest example of our enthusiasm for ‘ogling the filthy rich.’ Why are we so obsessed with watching the antics of the 1 percent?”

Before you read what the guest writers say, how would you answer that question?
In the Opinion article “Why We Like to Watch Rich People,” four debaters take on this topic. Here are excerpts from each:

Alyssa Rosenberg
America’s fascination with the ill-behaved rich, expressed in both reality television and this year in many movies that are contending for major awards, isn’t limited to the current recession. But the particular incarnation of our fascination seems intended to do something very specific: help us manage our covetousness, at a time when even basic financial security feels out of reach for many people.
Evette Dionne
Black women are a cash cow for cable networks. Millions of us tune in to Bravo, VH1, WE TV and the other networks that have invested in reality television franchises. It is a mutually beneficial relationship. We drive ratings, and in exchange, the networks give us a rare chance to see black women humanized in the media.
Farnoosh Torabi
Long before reality TV, I remember watching the fiercely decorated women of “Dynasty” plot and prance around their big, fancy mansions. Later in my tween and teenage years, my interest turned to soap operas. My favorite: the chic, sun-kissed cast of “Santa Barbara.” Soaps offered an entertaining escape to where budgeting constraints and bad hair days didn’t exist, where we could see how the “rich” lived, and experience — even if just for an hour a day — a part of their fictional lives that seemed vastly more exciting than our own.
Bruce E. Levine
Greed is now normal in our increasingly “money-centric” society, one in which money is at the center of virtually all thoughts, decisions and activities. While money has always been a big deal in America, greed was once seen as the practice of the spiritually sick — such as Mr. Potter from “It’s a Wonderful Life.” But today, greed is seen as both normal and acceptable by the mass media and mainstream politicians.
Now You Go: Read the entire article, then tell us …
  • Before you read the responses of the debaters, how did you answer this question? Why do we like to watch rich people?
  • With which of the four experts do you most agree? Why?
  • Do you agree with Mr. Levine that “greed is now normal” in our society? Do you consider greed to be normal and acceptable? Why?
  • Do you know what schadenfreude means? Alyssa Rosenberg contends that we like watching reality shows about rich people, like the “Real Housewives” franchise, because “part of the appeal of those shows is the opportunity to judge their casts” for their bad choices and desperation. Do you agree? Why or why not?
  • What movies, shows or books that feature rich people do you most enjoy? Why?
  • If you are interested in how money affected one young Wall Street trader, you might also like to read the much-emailed “For the Love of Money.” It begins, “In my last year on Wall Street my bonus was $3.6 million — and I was angry because it wasn’t big enough.” How much money is enough? How much is too much?

For some people, they like to watch the rich for many different reasons. We as teen want some of the things that they can afford but we can not. We are all as Americans pretty obsessed with the rich. i sit because of the things they have? Yes. Is it because of the freedom that they get to do and spend on things? It is possible. But in all ways we are obsessed with the rich in someway.

I agree with all of the experts and their judgements. One expert since I have to pick that I mainly agree with is, Bruce E. Levine. I agree with him more because, everyone is now all revolved around money. Money is one of the mostly common thoughts believed to go on in everyones head. The media makes everyone some how seem to be only caring about money. Whether it is the clothes, the places they eat at, and the things they do. The media likes to exaggerate things to the point where they make no sense ,but can still be believable. I agree with what Mr. Levine says about greed; however, i do not agree with greed being acceptable. I think some people take it too far and can not appreciate what has been given.

Indeed, I do not know what that word means I can still understand her point of view. In all honesty I think that is one of the main reasons why we watch reality TV. We like to not only see what they do in their everyday life ,but we like to judge them based on what we see. We think that the good ones are bad and the bad ones are god and do no wrong. I think the quote “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is being used daily by us when we criticize others we know nothing about. We like to see what we want and not what we should see.

I like the reality shows like “My Fair Wedding” with the main characters being the bride, the groom, and the creator, wedding planner David Tutera. I like fashion and want to pursue a career in it someday, so it draws my attention. I like to see how people feel when their plans get either scrapped or drawn out to be elaborate.
For me some money is better than nothing. some over exaggerate to the point where if their check is one zero short the world has come to a complete end. Money is only too much if you only revolve or think about it too much. For some people they do not need anymore money. Enough money is the money you need to eat, keep a roof over your head ;namely, paying your bills and having heat, water, and a bed. You should have some to save or to spend on occasions. Too much is if you just waste it unnecessarily.

  2. In my opinion the reason that people love to watch such show about the one percent would be that they just want to get a better idea of how it is to be like one of them. Personally i hate TV shows that all just focus on people that have no plot. People might think it’s interesting how they behave or the decisions that they make. Some people just find it very funny and actually think less of the rich people because of their way of behaving. Maybe people just want to experience something new in their lives and just want to shove their nose into other’s personal life. The debater that i agree the most would have to be Farnoosh Torabi because of the fact that he states “Soaps offered an entertaining escape to where budgeting constraints and bad hair days didn’t exist, where we could see how the “rich” lived, and experience — even if just for an hour a day — a part of their fictional lives that seemed vastly more exciting than our own.” this quote really states my ideas in a more professional way. I completely agree with Mr. Levine that now a days greed is normal; in fact, greed is an everyday thing that anyone can experience. Because of all those reality shows with people making stupid decisions by thinking that since they have their own TV show they’re unstoppable we might start thinking similarly and i honestly think that these days greed is at it’s top point. Which is similar to what Alyssa Rosenberg said about judging the cast. I really HATE those reality shows the only one that I might really enjoy is cake boss because well it’s about pastries but other than that it’s all just garbage. Multiple people with poor morals is what it’s all about these days. The last bullet point makes no sense and it really makes me angry to know that there are people out there that would really complain about getting 53.6 million dollars as a bonus I know many of people out there would love to have that much money as an annual salary including me.

We like to watch rich people on TV because we idolize them, and think that they live a perfect life. Also because we want to see how they act, and finally because we like to look at their luxury. According to Google to be rich means having a great deal of money or assets; wealthy. Most people's life goal is to be rich and we want to get ideas so that when we become rich we know what to do with our money.

Everyone idolizes rich people, being rich is cool. Some people don't know rich people so they watch them on TV. The media says that the ideal man or the ideal women should look a certain way and have certain things. We like to see people who can have the things that we can't be happy and live the life we can't. When someone is rich people normally think that they have no problems but the truth is that they too have to work hard for what they have; if they were born rich they have to work hard in order to keep their riches and expand them, but if you are born poor you have to work hard in order to get money and be rich. In some TV shows they give tips or show people how they became rich, so it gives people hope that one day they could be like the people they see on TV RICH.

Normally the people that play rich on TV are very educated, and have manners. Some people are not born into families that teach them manners and find the way rich people behave very interesting. It wouldn't be wrong to also say that some rich people think differently than every day people because they have different priorities and have experienced different things than regular people. We like to see the way they react to things we find normal or we want to compare our problem to their problems and see how we would react.

It is no secret that rich people have more access to art than most people; they can afford to go to more concerts, musiams, and pay for more art in general. We like to see how their houses look, so we can get an idea so that when we are rich we will know how to design our house. I want to see the way they dress for example all their dresses/heels are a must have on most girls closets and the suits are also a must have for a guy. We get our fashion based on how they dress.

Because we idolize rich people, think that they live a perfect life, because we want to see how they act, and finally because we like to look at their luxury we like to watch rich people on TV. Most people's life goal is to be rich and we want to get ideas so that when we become rich we know what to do with our money.

We are fascinated by rich people because we want to live like them we want to experience the fame and the fortune that many ordinary people cant have in their daily lives. Some people would like the watch rich people on TV because we envy them and we wonder "I wish that was me and How did he/she get so famous ". A part of famous people lives are way more exciting then from their point of view.

The expert that I agree with most is Alyssa Rosenberg. I really liked hers the most because she really understands and explains how we all become so fascinated in rich peoples lives. We get to really see hoe rich peoples lives are much more serious and complex than ours and even though they may seem like they have everything so easy and simple .it may not be that way to them we have to understand that everything they do is behind the camera and we really cant judge from that side.

Yes ,I do agree with that because today in this generation money has became a part of our lives without money we wouldn't be the same and our economy would just be destroyed because now a days you got t work hard to live and survive. That's why we see rich people that way as if they don't have to work to be successful and that everything just comes so easily to them but I think its deeper than that because some people have to sacrifice the most important things in their lives in order to be rich and have a higher social status.

I don't really agree because we cant judge actors and yeah that's exactly is they're doing because its a reality and even though its suppose to be real most of the time its not. For example "The real housewives " isn't really a true show but we don't see that all we see and care about is the drama and action that happens on the show. Its the character that we always judge and seem to care about and not the actual person in real life. My favorite TV shows are Sam and Cat , Liv and Maddie, The Haunted Hathaways and I like movies that relate to me specially

Well for me I don't believe people make money I think that money makes a person because money is a really powerful thing in a persons life it can control their actions , thoughts ,and emotions about events or things. Money revolves around everything but there isn't a exact limit actually expecially if you really need the money. Too much money can be really good too because you can save for the future instead of just spending it because you can.

Why do we watch rich people in movies and t.v.

I believe the reason we like rich people is simply because we are not rich. Everyone in our society today wants to be rich, and watching rich people is the closest we can get. Greed is very popular in this day in age, before it was looked down upon now it’s accepted. Everyone is always looking on how they could gain, instead of helping others. This is why I agree with the editor Bruce E. Levine. I quote ‘’ money is the center of virtually all thoughts’’.

I believe all editors make good points but I believe Evette Dionne is incorrect. She says the black people are cash cows for cable networks. I disagree with this because there are many races that pay extra for cable networks. Also I don’t agree with the point she makes that there is a mutual relationship. I say this because people don’t want to watch the rich they want to be rich.

The definition of schadenfreude is the feeling of enjoyment from seeing or hearing the troubles of other people. I agree with editor Alyssa Rosenberg because, it’s entertaining to watch other people’s problems because they’re not yours. Also watching other people’s problem gives you the ability to critique them, and not repeat the same mistake as them.

A show I enjoy about rich people is about the Kardashians. It shows us that even rich people have problems. It also shows us how many can change a person and even an entire family. The Kardashians are always arguing about the simplest things, that normal people would brush off.

The last reason why I believe we watch rich people is because we want their life. They have the newest technology, nice cars, and virtually have no money problems. They have the luxury we unfortunately don’t have. This could bring out jealously in some people, or determination to be rich. This why rich people get so much attention on television and in movies.

I believe we watch rich people because we aspire to be like them. Watching them gives us a sense of hope that one day we may strike it rich too. We wish to have their glamorous lives, and flashy clothing. Watching rich people gives most people hope that they may rise up from low or middle class, and be high class as well.
The expert I most agree with is Evette Dionne. I agree the most with Evette because I am African American as well, and what she stated about black women watching the most reality TV is totally true. My mom even invites friend over, and they watch things like Basketball Wives, or Housewives of Atlanta. Middle class black women are intrigued by high class black women. Most of the high class started out the same as them, but they made it differently. Some look at how they act on television, and laugh at them. They get paid to act like they hate each other.
I do agree that greed is normal, but I do not look at it as acceptable in the slightest. My mother always taught me that greed is ugly and a sin. Greed is not appreciating what you have, and always wanting more. In my opinion, a greedy person, is not trustworthy because you never know what they will do to get whatever it is they want. Greed is not acceptable at all.
I agree totally. I agree because I have seen people do just that with my one eyes. My mother and her friends judge the housewives and they talk about them as well. The ladies desperation for attention is humorous.
The show that features rich people is Keeping up with the Kardashians. That show is my favorite because they way they act is hilarious. They disrespect their mother, and each other. I never know whether it’s all an act, or if they are really serious. Also, their dramatic and glamorous lives reel me in each week.
I think how much money is enough or too much truly depends solely on the person. A greedy person may say no money is ever too much, and others may say enough to keep them alive. I think enough money is enough for things like clothes, shoes, and necessities. I think too much money is like the Kardashians. I believe they have too much money, and they spend it on dumb things.

I believe the reason why we watch rich people is because it motivates us. It motivates us because it will make us want to be like them. Everyone has hope that one day they can be rich and also be on movies/t.v. Also we like to watch rich people for entertainment. We like to watch and see all the nice things that they own. It's interesting to see how many paparazzi follow them and thinking how can they live their life with flashing cameras all over the place.

The person that I would have to agree the most is Bruce E. Levine. I agree with him because the thing mostly see on t.v has to do with money. For example, how the rich people spend their money. The media makes them look like they are very special people. In reality, they are normal people like us the only difference is that they are rich.

I agree that greed is normal, but I don't think it's acceptable. To me, greed is when you are not thankful for the things you have and you want even more things. It is also not acceptable because many people won't like you if your greedy and I'm sure no one wants to be hated. People should appreciate the things they have. I personally don't like when a person is greedy because I feel like overall they would be conceited.

I agree because it's entertaining watching them how they act. It's really funny watching the dumb things they do for attention and because they are desperate. Sometimes it can be interesting because you want to know what happens next and that's what keeps you watching the show more.

The show that features and that I watch the most is Keeping Up With The Kardashians. I like to watch the show because they are really funny. I like to watch how they own very expensive things. It's amazing how many people really like them and how much the paparazzi follow them everywhere. I don't know how they can live with cameras flashing everyday. I would probably get tired of it but I'm sure they are use to it. The Kardashians are also very gorgeous! That show really does entertain me.

I think "enough money" is when you have some to buy the things you need to survive. For example, making sure you have money to buy food, clothes, house, etc. Basically all the things to survive. I don't think it matters if you have too much money because you can save it for something big or use it to help someone out if they need it. It all depends on the person about how they want to use it.

I think that most people enjoy watching rich people on TVs because the social class of a character can make a show interesting. Drama can make people interested in the show because drama excites people, and people likes drama and people facing difficult problems. I also depends on the person and what interests them in tv shows. Personally, I enjoy comedy and know that I realizes it the comedies that I watch have rich actors. I think I watch because the events that happen are very suspenseful, thrilling, and funny. These things make people to continue to watch these reality shows.

I agreed with Evette Dionne because most of these black actors are enjoyed because of their situations and humor. In addition, black based channels like MTV, BET,Vh1,etc have black shows with high ratings and are highly watched by people. Most people enjoy comedy as a result they watch these black shows. On the other hand, people enjoy scandals and drama so black women are next when it comes watch black women actors.

I agreed with Mr. Levine because people usually want for things that they see other people that are rich have. As a result, they try to get what they get and try to be on the same level as them. Greed is normal in this society but not acceptable because it not good to have a reputation as someone who is greedy, stingy, and doesn’t want to share. Schadenfreude means to enjoy the lack of materials from someone’s misfortune. I don’t agree with what Alyssa because people most of the time don’t watch tv to judge someone’s decision they watch it to get entertained.

Movies and tv shows that I enjoy watching are ride along, love and hip hop, 2 Guns, and wild n out. These tv shows have in common are they have rich actors, black actors, and comedy. These movies and shows are humorous and have black people in the show. Love and hip-hop is a reality show, and I like watching it because the drama and scandals makes me want to continue to watch the following episodes. The show is very entertaining. I say when you make half a million a year that is enough. A million a year is too enough for yourself because you don’t need all that money.

I think that we like to watch rich people because it is fascinating to see what they do with their time. We are so use to being middle class or low class that we never thought about living in a big house and not having to worry about money and not having to worry about how we are going to pay the rent or car payments. Rich people have a funny way of overcoming challenging obstacles in life that we haven’t had the joy of accomplishing.

I agree with ''Bruce E. Levine'' he states in his portion of the article that ‘’ Greed is now normal in our increasingly “money-centric” society, one in which money is at the center of virtually all thoughts, decisions and activities’’ (-Bruce E. Levin). Money has taken control on our view point of the world and how we complete small tasks or large ones.
Although we live in a world that people want more money than others I thing that greed is acceptable now. Because people especially those in middle and low classes want to be able to live life in luxury. Not to worry when they will eat or if they will have money to eat.

schadenfreude means; the Satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune. And I do agree with Ms. Alyssa Rosenberg, because people such as myself like to watch others get injured or in trouble. It gets interesting and very . . . suspenseful to the point that you want to see what happens next so you keep watching the show or program. Until you get into it and start watching it weekly.

I enjoy watching show where people get hurt or standup comedian shows. Real husbands of Hollywood and stand up comedian Kevin heart, and Dane cook. These shows are extremely funny and addictive. I enjoy watching them because they both leave me in suspense so I want to watch them again and again.

But, I believe that there is no such thing as to much money. If you use it correctly then it will last a lifetime and help many people.

Well, why I like watching rich people on television is because some of them might have had an impact on my life or had inspired me, not just because they’re rich. I mean I also watch rich people particularly male celebs because well now a days a lot of teenagers including myself find, as I should say ‘rich guys’ on television attractive. We may be all consumed by celebrities and look up to them so we can be exactly like them, not really for the reason that they’re rich. I think it all comes down to admiration that makes us watch the show even more of ‘rich people’ on television. They, the rich people, may be labeled as rich people but to society today they’re labeled as “my idol” , “queen” or “my life savers.”

The experts that I agree with the most has to be Alyssa Rosenberg and Farnoosh Torabi. The reason I agree with them because Alyssa states, “We may never stop wanting money, the worries it eliminates and the ease it can bring.” This statement depicts how some reality television shows such as “The Kardashians” make viewers want to have money and live they way they do with luxurious houses and named brand labels of clothing. So it makes the viewer imagine not to worry about debt or literally anything that has to involve with owing money. The statement that Farnoosh concludes that can be a relatable quote to everyone is, “When it comes to achieving and maintaining true wealth, we need to work better on the message we send to the world, especially young adults. Being truly rich is not that sexy, at least not all the time, as these produced and edited shows would like us to believe. Instead, real wealth takes hard, hard work.” I have to say I completely agree with this statement, because being rich isn’t showing off what you have and the amount of friends or parties you’re invited to but rather to know you won’t have to worry about struggling to pay next months rent or upcoming bills in the next month. These reality t.v shows portrayed what it’s like to be all glamorous and popular. But there’s no true meaning behind it.

I have to agree with Mr Levine when he says “greed is normal.” Many people who are influenced especially by these rich people in movies or television think being so selfish is okay, since these rich people have thousands of dollars in their safes or get to carry around their daddy’s credit card. Now a days no really pays attention to people being selfish on television, because it’s normal! I do disagree with greed being normal, because it serves how cocky and uptight these rich people are, especially the Kardashian family. It’s definitely not acceptable to me and I really think it’s idiotic for others to think it’s okay and ‘inspiring’ that rich people act like this.

Does it look like I know what schadenfreude means? I had to copy and paste the word because I had no idea even how to spell it. So to answer the question, no I have no absolute clue what this word even means. But to the conclusion that Alyssa states I guess I partially agree with the statement, but I’m not quite sure what she’s really pointing out about “The Real Housewives.” But I guess we do judge the casts? We pick favorites and choose people that we dislike or think they’re so rude and self centered.

Movies that involve rich people that I like are so many, I usually like movies for the common interest not really if the person is rich. For example, “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “Beautiful Creatures,” “Insidious: Chapter 2,” The Harry Potter series, and so much more. Television shows that I like that involve rich people are “The Carrie Diaries,” “Adventure Time,” and “The Regular Show.” Lastly books that involve “rich people” that I enjoy to read are “Beautiful Creatures” series and “The Shiver” series.

  11. In my opinion us Americans like to watch famous people for entertainment and see how their lives are compared to ours. When Americans don't really have anything to do or want to know how their favorite celebrities are doing they turn to the tv for the answers. Many times people like to know a lot of what's going on famous peoples lives and want to know more about what famous people do and how they live their rich lives. Although, many times people just want to look at famous people for entertainment when they don't really have anything to do.
I agree more with Farnoosh Torabi because a lot of times people want to know for a least an hour how their lives would be similar to the rich peoples lives if they were rich. Moreover, they want to know how rich people live and if they are living better than most people who are underclass. Watching rich people on tv is like living their lives and how would you make it better if you were them. Many people just want to escape their lives for a little while and just want entertainment for a while. Overall, I agree with Farnoosh more because people just see rich people for entertainment.
I do agree with Mr. Levine because now and days it's all about the money and what class you are. And I do consider greed to be normal and something that is seen most of the times because many people just care more about money and how they live or what clothes they were and what designer is it from. Moreover, when people don't have that much money or just want I know how it feels to be rich, many of them turn to watching the rich peoples lives to know how it is. That is why many producers are making reality shows because many people just want to see how is the life of being rich.
In my own opinion I do agree with Alyssa because watching reality show are for people who want to see how rich people live and judge them for what they do and comparing our selfs to them. Many times it's also because many people see that the actors just aren't doing it right and people like to judge them bases on what they decide to do in their lives. It's also another reason for a chance for people to feel superior and how they would have done it differently or better if they were them.
I most enjoy any kind of movies, tv shows or books, but as long as they entertain me or have a really interesting way to make me keep on watching or reading. I think for me it's personally on how the movie, show or book can entertian me and how they can keep hooked on it. I really like many movies or books that are mysterious or adventurous because they have a topic or way that makes you keep on watching it or reading it because your just so into it that you want to know more.
There is really no way to tell the amount of money being little or too much because it all depends on who the person is and how they think of money. I say that money is always going to be little because not wanting you'll have to spend it in something. Many people always like to get more and more money and there's not a limit on money. If deciding how money is too little or too much than many people would have the same amount of money. There's also people who don't have a limit of money, so there's really not a way that people can decide how much money is little or a lot.

I think we like rich people not for themselves but what they have accomplished. I can confidently say that there is no person on earth who would rather be rich than in there current lifestyle.Rich people have glamour and ;in fact, everyone wants to have that but not everybody can.We idolize what they have because we know that we might not be able to have the same things.Sometimes also people find in some cases a piece of themselves in an rich persons life and they try to follow the route that person took to get there turn in the fast lane.

I personally value people who are rich not just for their money but also for what they have accomplished. For example athletes,I find that they prove themselves in a many ways leaving me always wanting to watch them play their games and wanting to see them prove they earn what they earn.I watch rich people on TV and movies to see if they actually deserve the money they are making from their jobs.I find that not many rich people often deserve the money they have and are just given to them because they are just there.I find it fascinating also how people can become rich from the most dumbest things;nevertheless, they are considered famous and get loads of money for these dumb things.

On the topic of rich people and dumb things well that's were everybody else comes in. People like view rich people on TV to make fun of them or to sometimes idolize them. People Idolize the rich even for the most dumbest reason because they find them inspiring and they enjoy watching them on TV because they feel that it proves that they " a good person". Even though some rich people make good and honest decisions others not so much.People either way enjoy watching them because they feel in either scenario that person is a good person.

Making fun of the rich is another reason we like to watch them on TV and movies. We feel that even though they are rich the mistakes they make are still hilarious to watch. Although some people take the making fun of them to an extreme others laugh at them just to feel a little better about themselves. Many people think that if a rich person can make mistakes so can they as well. It is more of a pick me up than anything else ;in fact, it helps many people through tough times as well.

Overall I think people like watching the rich because it is just a overall thing to enjoy. The rich in TV and movies can leave you with a smile on your face or a tear in your eye. They leave every emotion possible in a human being and it is somewhat enjoyable. People like being entertained and the rich somehow find a way to entertain us. The rich are a just a enjoyable source that we the people love to see and in the future will continue to love to see. They will always be something that a rich person will do to grab your attention.

I think that people can be fascinated by rich people because rich people have the things that people want. They can have or buy anything they want. It’s like something we wish we could have. Normal class people can’t have the types of things rich people have because the things rich people own are expensive. Often you can’t afford it. While rich people wouldn’t have to worry about money or spending too much.

Their life to us seems easy. Some people might have to struggle to pay bills or get things they actually need, while rich people get more than needed. Sometimes we watch them on t.v. as entertainment. Its usually reality t.v. and they get paid for being on t.v.

I think people find it interesting because maybe with all of the things they can buy, comes with more opportunities. So they might get to visit cool places maybe most people haven’t been to. Then people would watch the show because they want to see what it looks like. Then people keep watching because they can keep doing more and more things with their money.

People might also think about how they wished they could do all of the same things. We can see how a rich person lives their life everyday. Then, we can compare it to our own life and see how different it is. The only thing I would wonder, is how that person or family got to be rich.

Regular people can work really hard all of the time and not end up being rich. Although, when we see shows about rich people, we never see them working. We always see them relaxing or spending more money on things to buy. So some people have to work really hard, while others might just be given money from family.

  14. I believe that people enjoy watching rich people because the life the rich people are living is the type of life that the viewers want to have. Being rich has its perks such as buying whatever you want and you are able to pay off taxes. Middle and low classes can't get the things a first class person would get.

The rich live a type of life in which involves no worry. Rich people don't need extra time to pay off taxes, they could do that right away while Middle and low classes struggle with debt.

Money controls everything, money can even control the human mind. Everyone has greed and greed gets stronger when it is exposed to money. Expert Bruce. E Levine expresses this statement very well. Bruce. E Levine says we live in a "money-centric" society, in other words everything from thoughts, decisions, and activities and controlled by money. Bruce also said that greed affects not only the lower class but everyone.

People might enjoy watching rich people on television because they believe that if they watch how the person got wealth then they think that they also can achieve wealth. Television can be influencial to people of all ages.

Many people come to the United States to live in wealth but they do not realize the fact that they could work hard and not get rich. When people think about rich people they think of all the perks that come with it.

I personally don’t watch specific movies or TV shows only to see rich people and I don’t know anyone in my life who just watches TV to see rich people. Some of us might choose a TV show or movie over another because it has good actors, they might be funny or they might have good reputation on making good movies and that’s why we choose those movies but not because they are rich. We like to see rich people in movies or in TV because they make good movies or TV shows not because they are rich, but because they are good at it and that’s how they became rich

I agree with Bruce E. Levine because it is true that money is now the center of our lives. Most people only focus on getting rich and wealthy and forget everyone else. The goals of most of the people are to be rich in the future or in the present but they don’t consider helping out people.

I also disagree with Bruce E. Levine because Greed is not okay or “acceptable” as he stated. Greed is not rare but that does not mean that greed is okay in our society. Greed is now seen as normal because many people do it and the ones who don’t do it can’t do anything about it to stop it so they just ignore it. We all know greed is not okay but we just ignore it because we don’t have the power to stop it.

Schadenfreude is a feeling that some people have when they see others fail and they like that feeling. I disagree with Alyssa Rosenberg because I don’t watch TV to judge someone. I usually don’t watch TV shows, most of the time I watch movies and when I do watch TV shows I watch informative ones like discovery channel and there is nothing to judge there.

I enjoy action and comedy movies that feature famous people not necessarily rich people. I watch them because they are funny and interesting to watch and also because they feature famous people but not because they are famous but because they are good actors and that’s how they became famous.

People are fascinated by rich people because they have everything that the working regular people want. People like to see that the rich have the some of the same daily struggles that any other person who is not rich would have. The rich people entertain us by showing how they live and their drama that goes on in their life. We something might even be able to take a break from our lives and think about them in their shows whether if it is reality or if it is just acting.

I agree with the experts become they talked about how we would watch thing that we agree with or could even so our self in them. We somethings like to see the misfortunes of others and if they are more successful than you it makes you want to watch it even more. I agree with them become they say that we can take a break from our lives and we enjoy theirs. I don't agree with greed being acceptable because them thing can be gone in a day and when you have more then what is needed then you should be thankful for that because there are some people who don't have enough and they they are surviving

We enjoy to see that misfortunes and when thing don't go good for them. We like to see the drama that comes with the shows and how they react to it. And how they would react to living in someone else life that is in a different situation than you are. It is fun to watch other people because it is relatable and people can see them self in the other persons shoes.

I enjoy to watch reality show. It shows about how the rich people live and how they spend their time with their other rich friends. But I don't just turn on the TV and say that i'm going to watch rich people it just so happens that they are rich and are in TV. They have such simple lives they have problem as well but just not the same thing that other people who don't have as much money have to deal with.

We do idolize rich people because they have nice things and they have a lot of money. They have everything that we want and we think that they look good and they are living a good life And mostly because of us, we put in the time to watch their shows which is why they are making so much money in the first place.

We watch rich people for one reason and that is the fact that we can observe another life other than ours. Its also because we can judge those of higher power that we stereo-typically believe judge us of the middle and lower class. Its payback for what the rich did to the poor in past where it was true that the rich looked down on the poor. There are those who say that they watch it as a form of entertainment to pass the time; however, I see the alternative, and darker reasoning for watching the rich fool around with their money and then seem like criminals for getting money illegally. It tells those of the lower classes that they themselves are right and that that rich are the bad people and that money can only lead to bad things. Hypocritically, the common American usually strives to make more money and to live free of worries. We have to get back somehow and watching and judging those on TV is the best way possible.

I have to agree with Bruce E. Levine on the fact that greed is normal in the American culture of today. But there are possibly to two sides of greed that he may be mentioning, a “good” greed and a “bad” greed. We all want to keep something in the world and never let them go and keep possessions that mean value to our lives. That’s “good” greed. The “bad” greed is working to get things to suit yourself and the end goal to be just that and become ruthless person who’ll befriend someone only if that person benefits them to their goal and will betray those close to them as their goals only matter. Mr. Levine is the realist of the four, I feel like he can look at society and see what course most of people follow. I feel like he makes the most sense and is straightforward with his reasoning. That’s why I believe he’s correct on the matter concerning the question: “Why do we watch rich people?”, we see greed as the norm and so we can relate to them and judge them as they are rich and we are not.

From my own school we took a lesson the ethics of reality TV and we discovered what schadenfreude is and that is enjoying the pain of others as entertainment. Likewise, we as Americans and maybe a human race, enjoy the pain of others no matter if it’s the rich being emotionally, vulgarly, or physically humiliated. I stated in the first paragraph that we use this ability to watch the rich people live normally and we judge them because of the stereotypical following of people across the United States. We do that to judge them because it is our way of getting back for the those in the past; however, I myself don’t like judging them as a person on the screen as that can all be script. I want to meet these people in person and judge them as that.

I don’t like reality TV, or anything that involves the recording of how someone lives, including the lives and interactions of the rich. I really don’t. Its too boring to me personally and feels a little stalker-ish. Why would I want to spend thirty minutes or an hour watching people live their lives? It’s stupid to me and I really don’t want to watch it. I rather watch something that really fake then real people do fake things.

But one question that makes us lower class also think if there will ever be enough money for one person? It depends on that person and how much they want and how much is too much for themselves. I rather have a few millions and that’s it. I don’t want to have billions, because millions are just as great to me personally. But on the ethical level, it becomes too much when the money controls you and you become corrupted and only want money. Power is money, and with power being able to corrupt so can money.

Why do we like to watch rich people on tv and movies?

In my opinion I think we like to watch them on tv and in movies because how their lives are fascinate us. When they are on tv they act as regular people in the real word. They don’t show off their jewelry and their houses. In some tv shows they are just regular people living like us. But in reality tv shows they just have everything which makes us want to grow up like them. In movies they show us action and comedy and all the above which interest people.
In reality tv shows they show comedy to me. I watch more reality tv shows than anything because they are funny. It really shows you through the screen how these people really act. Through pictures you think these rich people are all goody goody but in reality they have done wrongs too. They just embarrass themselves on these shows because the camera is always rolling when drama happens.
In movies it shows us acting and how other unrealistic characters are. I think we watch rich people in movies because it is different genres and everyone watches something different. It’s like when you watch a movie it’s relaxing and you can just sit there and relax. You usually go to the movies to see different movies and watch what’s new. Rich people show us a different part of the world of how they act. When celebrities are usually in movies like singers and stuff it makes people wonder like how will the movie turn out because it’s not their strong thing to do.
I think the different type of things rich people offer us is better than watching blank. If we didn’t have actors or people to be on television life would be boring because what would there be to do. Sometimes people just want to sit in the house and watch tv and movies to relax themselves. Family time is usually about watching movies and tv. Usually in my house we watch tv and play games all day long just to be separated from each other.
So I think we watch rich people on movies and tv shows to fulfill our interest. I think we watch rich people to see how they live their lives and how they idolize use. Some people watch certain stuff because they have role models that they want to be like. Some people watch it just to fall asleep and relax. I know I watch it when I want to eat and I like to watch movies and things while I eat my food. Some people watch it because of the drama and the comedy it brings or the action it shows. The different genres is what fascinates people.

Why we watch rich people on tv is a thing we do all day. they can be anywhere on the screen, but why? It could be that they have personality. It could be because they have money. I think its because that the people know these faces and stick with the people they like.
These rich people know what they are doing. They probably practice and became good at it. They know what the people want. Also, they know what their audience love. The rich people just know what people desire.
Maybe its what they wear. They wear their suit or dress and it becomes there schtick. Then it becomes something that everybody wears. what they wear shows them who they are and what their attitude is. Their wear is what they are, and it shows it.
Probably its because they’re familiar. We probably wouldn’t watch a tv show with some random person. We know the people that are funny. We know the people that bring in the gossip. We basically know the person.
All these things are familiar to a rich person who is well known. They know what the audience want. They know there wear and what not to wear. They know that they are familiar with everybody. We watch them because they know that we desire them.

We watch rich people simply because their lives are a lot better than ours. It provides an escape from our own lives. Not only is watching rich people fun because it provides an escape, but it’s fun because it allows us to talk a lot about them and say how wrong they are for the things that they do simply because it is known that those of a higher class look down on middle class people and laugh at the things they don’t have, so watching rich people gives middle class people a chance to laugh at their stupidity. In my opinion I see it as a way to make yourself feel better by making fun of them and feeling safe because you know that they don’t know that you said that.Rich people have the things that middle class people dream about having; as a result, we watch rich people because it gives us a taste of the high life.

I agree mostly with Bruce E. Levine because the point behind his argument would be that greed and covetousness are the main reasons behind why people like to watch the wealthy. Our society thrives on technology and money and since our society thrives on it, the people that cannot afford the latest technology due to a lack of money have an envious desire for those things simply because everybody has them. Watching rich people helps us manage that envious desire and keeps us calm. Bruce E. Levine goes on to say that “greed is now normal” in our society and I agree with him. When we walk past homeless people, the first thing we think about is that we’re better than them and that we’re higher than that person on the economic ladder. Money and greed is taking over society because most people see life as being on a ladder. The more money you have, the higher you are on the ladder.

Schadenfreude means to receive pleasure from another person’s pain. I agree with Alyssa and how she says that we thrive on the pain and desperation of the rich because it’s true. Like I said in the first paragraph, the wealthy would make fun of us for not having things and so we make fun of them because of their bad choices. When we see the wealthy in pain, whether it be physically or emotionally, we feel happy because for once in their seemingly perfect lives, they feel bad. To some people, money is the key to happiness and so when we see rich people, they are usually smiling and happy and we automatically think it is because they have no worries. So when we see them in their times of desperation, we get happy because they “deserve it”.

One show that I find as my guilty pleasure would be Keeping Up With The Kardashians. I watch that show because I honestly find them entertaining and I just like watching them succeed. Of course I get happy when they make mistakes, but that is simply because I see that they are also human and not some supernatural beings with a lot of money and fame. When they make mistakes it helps me feel more connected with them. I don’t thrive off of their pain and mistakes.

It’s never going to be known how much is enough. It all depends on the person and what they want in life. I actually hate spending money because I feel greedy, that’s why I’ve had the same pair of shoes I bought from a thrift store for the past two years, because I feel that I should only spend money when it is truly needed, but that is simply because I was raised in a family that had and still has a lot of financial issues. It all depends on what the person’s view is on money.

We like to watch rich people because we like to see stuff that we don't have, a life we always dreamed of. We like to see drama, action and anything that interests are minds. We also like to watch rich people because we like to see how people act and how they live their rich life.I agree with Bruce E. Levine because I do believe that greed plays a big part in why people watch rich people. What he is trying to say is that the person with the most money will be the center of attention.

Also what Bruce E.Levine is trying to say is that the person with the most money will be the center attention to not only the people but the media as well. I do agree with Mr.Levine that greed is normal because you see all these rich people with lots of money and they just use it for themselves and no one really cares. Yes it is acceptable because we are in a society where yes we help out but we also just watch for are self and only ourselves.I do agree with Alyssa Rosenberg because people do like to judge people in like how they live their own life . Also we like to judge in what the person would become later on in the future.

One show that i watch that interested me a lot is the movie commando with Arnold Schwarzenegger. I enjoy this because he does a lot of action and very cool movies also he has a lot of money and is just really cool. I believe that there is no such thing as too much money.I believe this because as you can see money wastes fast and the more money you have the more time you will be able to keep that money.

  22. we watch rich people because it lets us free ourselves from our reality and watch someone else's. We are able to release our struggles in life for an hour and indulge in the scandals and affairs of the rich. Its shows the average everyday citizen what there life could be like if they had the wealth of the 1%. When we watch these movies and t.v shows it make us dream of being the main character or the star; moreover, being the multi million dollar con artist or thief.
I agree most with Levine because it is true. America has become a bank; unfortunately, there is a catch. They will take your money, but you will only get a small percent of it back. Our nation has been driven to greed, and every foundation of it has become corrupt. It has crumbled under the weight of the 1 percent's pension. Greed was once seen as an ill-founded virtue of the corrupt, but is now seen as the drive every political figure uses to reach success.
I agree with Levine that greed is now normal in our society. It has become a major part of every American in the past decade. Greed will always be a large factor in our society, but it doesn't make it acceptable. The funny thing is that even though many people say it is not acceptable they all indulge in the corruption of greed. Even if it is not acceptable that doesn't mean its not accepted in our nation. It will never go away and will never be ridden of every American.
I agree that people watch shows like desperate housewives because it lets them judge the rich and famous for the faults in their lives. it makes people feel good about themselves to see celebrities being desperate or in need of something they don't have. A shows I watch that feature rich people is leverage. I enjoy it because it shows the rich and corrupt for who they are and how some robin hood like people can take it all away. If I ever came in to 3.6 million dollars I would be perfectly fine. anything over 4milliondollars is just being greedy. half of the Americans in the united states would be elated to receive only quarter of that.

We like to watch rich people, because we view them as role models. We compare ourselves to them, so we can further improve our image and traits. Watching rich people can also be entertaining. For example, we watch actors in movies and sometimes cheer for the main character to succeed.
I mostly agree with Farnoosh Torabi's view. He thinks that we watch rich people, because they live far-fetched lives, which to us seems fictional. I agree, I also believe that we watch rich people, because it's a form of entertainment. People like to compare their ordinary lives to those of the rich and create fantasies of being like them.
I agree with Levine's statement that greed is normal in our society. Money is a big factor in everyone's lives. Without money, basic needs like food and water can not be obtainable. And so, people are often greedy. They want money to satisfy their needs and to survive. Therefore, I believe greed is justifiable and normal in our society.
I agree. We watch shows like “Real Housewives” because we like to be in the stand points of the characters. We compare our choices to their choices; and if the characters make bad decisions, we like to judge them. People also get to learn from the characters' struggles and their achievements.
I don't believe there would ever be too much money, because we will always have needs and goals that we want to accomplish. Money has a coordination with achievement, because people feel achieved for having a lot of money. However, if a person's basic life needs are met like food, clothing, and water, I believe he or she has enough money.

Rich people are the kind of people that have money and a lot of power. They are cocky,self-centered, and sometimes exaggerators because of their fame and power. But, when comes to movies and TV shows they set a different side to themselves that nobody knew of. I think people like to watch rich people on movies and TV shows because they are attractive, they sing or dance, and they have a life you would like. That's the reason that people watch rich people so they can see if they were that rich what would they feel or live like.
When a boy or girl see an attractive person they start to have fantasies on how their life would be with that person. A rich person is favored if they are really nice and always attentive to being fair and loving. An attractive rich person brings fame and money to their partner like many Spanish artists do but they keep their life personal which is really nice and a great example of being normal. Like, Selena Gomez is on TV she wants to be watched by teens because she's attractive and a really good actor. Even Justin Bieber and his movie that he 1st brought out making many girls coming to watch it with his parents. Many attractive people are famous because of what they've done to make TV shows popular and awesome.
When rich people can sing and dance their popularity goes sky rocketing because of the uniqueness they have in still making music and performing new things. I believe people watch rich people for that reason to get their story and see if they can do the same thing and compare because of their success. The singing of rich people is impressive because they show why they are famous and well known. These rich people show the hard work they did so they could have money and even be on television. I know that rich people are hard workers but because of their jobs and dedication they have money and made changes to their life.
When people are loved and caring rich people anybody wants them if they are ugly or pretty people want to be with a person like that. These rich people like jenifer Lopez are an example of a person that shows love and passion for,her people and everybody she meets. Me personally this would never be a mistake if you find a rich person that is in a movie that people know is donating to charities and raising money for a cause. I believe that when I see a rich person on a movie they are only there for the money but people like to see rich people on TV to see how their career led to the chance for them to open their eyes and take the chance to become successful. The only reason movies are awesome is the result that rich people are on them and people watch them and make them popular because of their acting skills and the theme of the movie.
I agree with Bruce E. Levine because many people that are rich are greedy which is not the best feeling for anybody.Even when people see rich people on TV they see that its normal and they earned the right to be rich and cool but thats normal on TV. I consider that greed is normal amoung people that are cocky. I don't know what schadenfruede means, but it sounds like a tree. Yes, I totally agree that people watch television from rich people like the real housewives because they are all dramatic and always have commotion between each other, and they even fight each other a lot. Enough money is enough for what that same person earns not what he thinks he earns. Too much money is too much money when that person starts to become greedy and he starts to turn on everybody in the end and everybody starts to turn on him in the end.

  25. I think many people like to watch rich people because they like to see how life could be when you’re rich. Its like you see someone live the life you wish you had and so then you watch the people believing that could be you some day. I know I do that all the time when I see the news and a rich person comes out. I picture myself in the rich persons shoes; meanwhile, I try to think of what I would do with the money. The only bad thing is that I then want to continue to see the rich person. The feeling of so much money is quite intriguing.

I agree with Bruce E. Levine the most because his first statement is true. Greed is definitely normal now in days; hence, people do anything for money. If you think about today’s economy, you can see that it is not that high but our country revolves around money. Everything we want cost a lot; however, rich people can pretty much buy whatever they desire. It makes people think how easier life is to have the money at their hand.

As mentioned before, I do agree with Mr. Levine. Greed is normal in a society where you are considered “high class” based on your socio-economic status. Not all people are rich but yet everyone want to feel like it. That is what drives society to think that everyone who is rich is sane and for those who aren’t, well good luck for them. Because of this belief everyone tries to move along with what everyone thinks is okay so they accept that they aren’t rich. But that won’t stop some people from trying to becoming rich to be seen in society.

With Miss Rosenberg statement that people like to watch rich people for faulty and judgemental reasons, I agree. Apart from what I said about people wanting to be rich, there is also some people that hate or dislike the rich because they themselves aren’t rich. They rather “hate” on others for being something they are not. That makes it much easier for them to judge the rich and degrade them in order to make themselves feel good. I’ll admit that I have been in that position whenever I see Justin Bieber.

The only show that I used to see with my sisters, was Jersey Shore. They got paid good money just for doing what they wanted and going about their lives. The show always caught my attention because it made my mind wonder what I’m going to do when I am their age. But now I realise that the show was just a waste of time. The cast only acted like that because they had the money. I rather be me than have money and act different to my friends and family.

There is a lot of reasons why people like to watch rich people in movies and in TV. Most of the time, people who watch movies, or TV shows with rich people in it, aren’t rich themselves. The reason behind it might be that people like to see other people with stuff that they don’t have. Some are confident that they will never be rich, so they want to at least know how the rich life actually looks like. Some people watch movies and TV shows with rich people in it, so they can imagine themselves living the wealthy life.
Another reason why people like to watch rich people in movies and in TV is because they are optimistic. Some people like to use movies and TV shows as motivation. There is people out there that don’t just want to know how the rich people live. There is people who actually want to live like that. After watching movies and TV shows like this, they are determined to do whatever it takes to become successful and rich like them.

Everyone believes that the more money you have, the better off in the world you are, but unfortunately that is so untrue. Maybe in the shallow minds of today's society, but not in the practical minds of today. Money equals power, right? Well what happens when all the money you have and all the power you have is gone? You can't just become a regular civilian now. Now you’re addicted to the lifestyle. The lifestyle you can't maintain because you were too blinded to realize that, life is real. However, no one sees this part of the fame. No, they just see the glitz and glam on the surface.

We want what we can't have. Its undeniable. I am almost certain that everybody has at least once, dreamt of being famous. A singer/songwriter,rapper, a poet, a dancer, an artist, etc. We all had those big dreams, and then one day we woke up and realized that having those big dreams won't pay bill or put food on the table. We postpone or just flat out forget our dreams when they become too risky or unrealistic to your peers. Leaving only the brave souls to take the dreams and make them reality. Hence the famous/rich people we know as celebrities. Watching rich people is an obsession, because they make us see the what if in life. The what if is what we all see when our dreams have faded away because we didnt take the risk; but we see a celebrity on top of the world and they got there by taking the risk you wouldnt. This is one of the reasons people watch rich people, so that they can see where they went wrong with giving up.

Another reason people watch rich people is because they are entertaining. So many reality shows out now paint the picture of pure humor, such as “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”, which is one of my favorite reality show of all time. I think I love the show so much because I find it to be ridiculously hilarious. Finding humor in rich people is a big reason we watch their shows and movies. They show us that although they’re rich, they are still humans. They make mistakes, they get upset, they love, they learn, and they live in the same world as us. A lower class person can watch an episode of “KUWTK” , and find out that they have way more in common with them than they thought they did before. All because of a laugh they shared. Its small connections like that make the rich seem even more down to earth.

Motivation is another reason that people enjoy watching rich people. The motivation behind some people can stem from seeing others who are successful and seeing things that the rich person had to go through really can help their fans set similar goals. Hoping to have the same outcome as the rich person they are aspiring to be. In my opinion this is probably one of the healthiest reasons that people enjoy watching rich people. Its the one that allows you to put a personal twist on the lifestyle you’re hoping to succeed. Which is the most important part about living a healthy lifestyle, but still aspiring to be someone big in the life of others.

These are just a few of the reasons that someone would choose to keep up with the Kardashians or any other rich people. Some people do it because its a constant reminder of what they could have been, and they realize that having enough heart to take the risk just wasn’t for them. Some people see it as a way to become closer to the rich person themselves, a simple connection that you find can make a huge difference in the way you see the person. Others use the rich people and their stories as motivation behind some people can stem from seeing others who are successful and seeing things that the rich person had to go through really can help their fans set similar goals.

I believe that we like to see rich people on TV because we like to have a dream life that we want or are wishing to go for. Our generation watch rich people on TV also just for fun and for entertainment.

Many people have that one person they look up to and wish to live their life as the "rich" live theirs. People follow the rich in every single movement that they take thus that's why they watch them on TV to get a closer look into their lives in which they wished to live.

People certainly watch rich people because They find their lives funny and entertaining for example a reality show I like to see is Jenni Rivera its a reality TV show about a rich women that started off really bad in the ground and then work her way up to the life she had. Her saying was " just work really hard and you can concur anything in the world that you wish".

Many people that watch rich people on TV are also usually to judge the life other people live. Sometimes when people watch the richer people on TV they usually believe that they live a perfect life but in which that's false and then we realize that they live and go through the same problems that us the "regular" people go through.

Rich people on TV have affect us in many ways. They make us have that one dream life that we want and wish to have. Their lives serve us as an entertainment source and its a way life for us to express how we feel about the world and people around us. Rich people on TV help us understand that in life you don't have to be rich from the start to end rich. That's why we watch rich people on TV.

I believe that we, as in normal people today, enjoy watching rich people for a sense of fascination and a glimpse of what their life could be like one day. Personally, i do not watch many shows about rich people because they usually get a lot of drama into their lives and do not appreciate the things that they have. Although I believe this, rich people have the power to make others want to follow them. Rich people have the power to make others admire them for their looks, ability to sing or dance, the movies they are in, the achievements they have made, but not for their core values or their personality. We see rich people, and we immediately want to be like them. After all, they have nice cars, amazing homes, the latest trends, and famous friends too. We imagine ourselves living their lives and it draws us closer to them.
I agree with Farnoosh Torabi the most. I do agree that the lives of rich people are far more interesting than our own lives and it is nice to escape to their world even only for a while. The rich people have lives filled with drama, excitement, lust, and adventures, whereas, my daily life is filled with lunch and homework. I find it fascinating to see how others live and see all the interesting things that happen to them. Living a life with excitement sounds really cool because only rich people have fun things happen to them. Even if it is only a little bit, we escape our daily lives and enter the world of the rich through TV and movies.
I do agree with Mr. Levine that “greed is now normal” in our society because nowadays, everyone wants the best for themselves and no one else. People often give themselves the biggest piece of cake, and they don’t even think about how much cake is left for everyone else. If people act like this with cake, it is only worse with valuable, material things. People buy themselves the nicest house on the block, but they don’t think about the people whose house just got taken away from. It doesn't even cross our minds on how other people have a lot less than we do, but we still want the best for ourselves. We want to have the coolest things and not even care about what the people who have less than ourselves have.
Schadenfreude means to find satisfaction in the misfortune of others. I do not agree that this is why all people watch shows about the rich. I do believe that some, maybe most, people watch television shows for this reason, but I also believe that it is not right to do so. I do think that it’s normal for people to judge others based on their appearance and actions, but it is not correct. We shouldn't watch television or movies about the rich, and then judge them for what they do to make ourselves feel better.
A show that I enjoy watching about rich people is Switched at Birth. It is not a reality TV show, but I do enjoy it and the people are rich. I like Switched at Birth because it is about how a rich baby and a poor baby were switched at birth and they now live with each other and yes, drama is created. One of the switched babies is deaf, and I find it fascinating how the rich people treat someone so much differently because of a medical condition, when in reality, they wanted to be treated just as any other person would be treated. I like the show because it shows me about the major differences between the life of the rich and the life of the normal combined.

  30. Being rich is like being on top of the world, but why do so many people like watching rich people? There can be many reasons that answer this question however, many people find it as a form of entertainment to watch. A major factor that rich people have that middle-class people don’t have is disposable income. Other than actual money, why do people pay attention so much? Many people who live high-class have their own television shows, meaning they have coverage of their daily lives. Most of the time, people don’t really even pay attention to what they’re watching, and rich people shows are one of the past times. It’s truly great to see how people with money live less struggles that we do and sometimes live carefree. The television shows might simply show how average someone rich could be amongst others. There’s no need to be rich, but there’s a shared want of money, and people want a lot of things.

With the world growing heavier and heavier on money, it’s easy to see that more and more people want it. This is called greed, and it can go to certain extents. Material possessions always have a catch, money. If you want to drive your brand new Lamborghini into your huge mansion, you need to be rich. Money buys everything, and what they say about money not buying happiness isn’t true, you can buy things to make you happy. Money is a powerful thing in this day in age; besides, not everything is just fueled on hopes and dreams. Seeing celebrities with their sweet latest iPhones make it hard not to want what they have. Humans tend to want what they can’t have, which is probably the main reason why resorting to watching rich people is the closest to being rich.

The expert Farnoosh Torabi brings up a good point about how some rich people live fictional lives elsewhere, which seem a million times more interesting than our own lives. Being interested in seeing other people live better lives has been going on for decades. If we can’t enjoy our own lives, why not enjoy other people enjoying their lives? This is illustrated through cartoons, music, movies, and even photography. Rich people on television shows may not be the latest trend; nevertheless, people still bring it up. I believe Torabi’s point about how a fictional life is more interesting brings up the idea of what interests people, and that’s the charm of it. Having the true reasoning to watching rich people be a mystery is what interests people.

There’s a word, “schadenfreude,” which means you have a pride or happiness in the misfortune of others. Some television hosts show that, where rich people are put onto reality shows to see how they react to average lives, and the hosts laugh at the misery rich people live in. I personally find shows that have the contestants, or the rich people, to live harder lives without the money they’re used to. I agree to this kind of show, because they agreed to it, but it’s also entertaining to see people become wrecks. There’s no reason why you wouldn’t laugh at rich people living out our everyday problems. How often do you get to see someone whine like a baby because their possession was taken away? It’s the most cynical but amusing thing to do.

A book that I’ve read, “The Last Book in the Universe,” shows how genetically enhanced people are the supreme and rich ones, while everyone else lives in poverty. The genetically enhanced, the proovs, are the ones who are treated like kings and queens, and it’s interesting to see how generous some people can be. Sometimes television shows of the rich people show their generosity, and it’s heartwarming. Moments like that are why people watch rich people shows. There are many other odd or outlandish reasons why people watch people who are rich, maybe not for their money, but how they’re laying back in a hard world like this.

We like to watch rich people because it entertains us but it also give us a motivation in life to succeed. Watching the rich can make us see certain things others can’t. When seeing the rich in television shows or in theaters we simply watch it for entertainment. For example it can be Kevin Hart. Kevin hart is known as a comedian and can make people laugh. Others might be role models can give someone strength to do what they believe in.

I agree with Bruce E. Levine. He’s telling the truth. Greed does run in the environment now. Kids seem to want the newest electronics and to have better things than others. Greed has spread around the world not only in local places. His statement is basically saying that money is almost everything. It’s a ranking in social status in life.

Its now normal to be greedy. Greed has turned many peoples life around. The rich experience greed in manythings. The “rich” have showed greed in many movies. In the last paragraph i said that it gives off a social status. There is always gonna be the wealthy and the poor. Everybody wants to have some values in the life they live. Thats why greed is an acceptable thing. greed runs in everyone at a certain time.

The movie and television shows i like the most would have to be Teen wolf, Twilight, and the modern family. The reason why i like all these shows is because i love the people who play in them and that they show certain characteristics in each character. In the T.v. show Teen Wolf Scott McCall is the Responsible and caring one towards others which shows there some people out there that is reasonable to others. Stiles also in teen wolf is very sarcastic and can be funny. He is the brains of the group even with all his witty remarks towards his enemies.

The reason we all watch rich people is simple. we watch them because we can relate to them and that they entertain us! Everyone has a specific show that they love to watch and have a good laugh at. Certain rich celebrities give of certain traits people relate to in their own lives.

  32. I think people like to watch the rich for many reasons. I love to watch rich citizens because I like to see the lifestyle that i could get if i work hard. Watching rich people motivates me to see what i could be if i am successful. i don’t think watching them is a bad thing, but an influential thing.

I think Alyssa Rosenberg made some very interesting arguments: that watching the rich helps us manage our envy. That seeing rich people and their lives are a release for the middle class of America. For me, it is entertaining and always leaves me in awe because of the many thing they can do and the amount of power they have over others, and to just do better things. Mostly, having a better life.

I totally agree that greed is normal. If greed wasn’t normal, there would be no need for products because people would be happy with what they have. I think it’s normal, but not acceptable. Greed can take over people. It can tear friends and family apart. No one wants greed in anyone’s life.

According to Oxford’s Dictionary, schadenfreude is having pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune. I think that the people love to see drama between rich to see how they truly react to problems. I think that is how Reality TV shows are so successful. People love drama.

My favorite book featuring rich people is The Great Gatsby. I love to see that events of the rich unfold in Gatsby’s life. It’s a passionate book about love, greed, money, and misfortune. The setting when Wall Street was booming makes the scandals even more dramatic.

I think that people like to watch rich peoplebecause it gives them a glimpse of what life can be when everything you want. But mostly I think that people watch these shows to entertain themselves. They get to see all the problems that rich people have and realize that not much that different from our daily lives. People get to see what life is like when you have everthing and how bad it might turn out or maybe even good for some. But sometimes we are not aware of what we watch because these type of shows are everywhere on T.V.

I agree with Bruce the most because money has become the center of most people's lives. They forget of the important things in life and focus on what is unuseful. I mean most start to think "oh well I need this because if I don't but it I won't fit in". People have become so money center that they rely on it 24/7. Which shouldn't be that way. You start to think that because you don't have a certain amount of money you are low or poor. When in reality you're not.

I don't think that greed should be normal or even accepted into our community. What would that show the new generations? That it's ok to think in just money or material things and not think about family or others? I mean let's be real would you want someone to put you to the side because their needs are much more important than you or their family? That is what we would be teaching future generations if we let greed become normal or accept it in our daily routine.

Schadenfredue means to find pleasure in someone else's misfortunes or bad situations. I agree with Alyssa because it's true people do watch reality shows about rich people just to judge them. I mean it's the only chance that you can get to judge someone without being judged back. When people watch the show it gives them relief because they see their life isn't so bad after all. They say "I'm glad that it's not me". It gives them time to relax and let their stress out.

I don't really watch show that have rich people in them. The only show that can truly relate to this topic is "Keeping up With the Kardashians". I mean this show defines pointless plot shows. If you were to take away their money who would they be? No one really! Everywhere you see there is new news about a fight the sisters are in or that they are getting married for the fourth time. They spend all their money on junk and plastic surgeries. They have lost their roots and traditions. But people watch their show to make ridicule of the dumb things they do.

I don't think that there is a limit to how much money is enough to too little. You can be happy with the things you have done with what you have. Or you can be sad with the things you haven't done. It is up to you to decide that it the choice you have to make. But in my opinion it's not about the money it's about what you have and the people you have around you. But as long as you have a set mind you can have as much money as you want.

  35. What makes rich people on television so enticing to everyday people is watching what it's like to live the life of that person. I'm pretty sure everybody in the world wants know what it's like to live "the high life." Everyone wants to know what it's like to have your name in tabloids and know what it's like to be a household name. People seem to live through the eyes of others. We like to see famous people mess up. I think in the mind of an everyday person, it is jealousy that drives them to continue watching to see a wealthy person mess up for once.

I 100% agree with Farnoosh Torabi. We watch the lives of the rich and imagine if they were our own. We get a taste of what it's like to be them, and what they go through when they are struggling. You can think of the rich as your own daydream in which you're living. Some people feel as though these people are not as human like we. They are seen as symbols, but no longer people. They are now just objects on a television screen.

Sadly, I do consider greed to be normal. In my own life I would be considered greedy. Money is what people aspire to have nowadays. Money is more important than health to a lot of people. Some people will betray friends, family, or even people they've known their whole life for a dollar. Currency shows that you have made it. It shows that you are worth the expensive cars and clothes, because you've earned it. Earning these luxuries and flaunting them is basically saying "Hey, look at me! I'm worth societies attention!"

I am not aware of what that word means, but I totally agree with what she is saying. Back to my previous statement of money showing accomplishment, people like to see other people who have achieved something mess up. Why? Well, because we're all just selfish. Watching others fail gives other happiness, especially when it's a rich person who is failing, because it is saying that they aren't perfect. When someone sees another person closely inching to societies idea of perfect, anything that can hold them back it just pleasure for viewers waiting to see them fail.

My favorite show that features rich people is Real Housewives of Atlanta. Now, I do not watch the show every time it airs, but I do enjoy watching it with my mother, who has seen every episode and is currently awaiting a new one, sometimes. I like it because they remind me of my aunts and my own mother. They have the same lingo, style, and personality. What separates them is the money. My family isn't rich, but far from poor. They are just so similar in a lot of ways.

When it comes to money, there is never a such thing as too much. It is the sad truth, but money is something that I really look forward to making a lot of in the future. I can blame it on media, but I think everyone has a money-chasing dream in them. It's money that makes the world go 'round. What life is worth living if you aren't on a chase for success?

  36. I believe the american fascination with rich people started at the thought of reality entertainment . At the beginning of reality television the low and middle class curiosity of the richer class was sparked. Many wondered how they lives of those who were more fortunate lived, this was the goal that directly caused the creation of that type of show. Many aspire to see such who seemingly have it all, it’s a certain glamour which is inspiring.

Those living in conditions that are poor, they are curious to would cause other to aspire and dream; furthermore, it’s such inspiration that causes an obsession. This is quite an interesting phenomenon, while typically, we humans are afraid of the unknown, in this instance, the unknown; however, is a source of interest.

I believe the source of this problem occurred due to a younger audience, since the youth is so impressionable. I tend to not follow trends because they are just new; instead, I like to follow my own path and do my own things.

The problem with that obsession people develop on rich people, is the fact that not everyone is rich nor will be rich. It’s a unachievable goal for many. They like to hope but unfortunately, the opportunity for this is quite limited. After a while, this may even turn dangerous due to a person using any means necessary.

As for the four experts, I agree with Farnoosh the most, while reality tv did not start it, however, interest in other more fortunate lives have always been around. We like to think of the new and interesting lives of exciting new people, it’s interesting to us.

Everyday, for the rest of our lives, we are followed by social media. We watch tv, we browse the internet, and we have technology everywhere we go. But, sometimes, we see ourselves under the power of those who are the “higher class” than most of us in the “middle class” or the “lower class”. Social media is controlling who belongs on the social ladder of life. But, the question is, why do we always have to be looking up or having to make those who are the “higher class” our role models or our motivation?
I think people look up to “richer people” because they are obviously successful. I mean, it’s been said that once you’re rich, you’re considered having power. People probably think that once people have money, they can buy ANYTHING in the world and pretty much successful. You’re beautiful and you’re famous. Social media has controlled our brains based on money!
We usually see people who are rich on tv almost everyday. Soap operas, reality tv shows, etc. They are famous and we are supposed to follow on what they say. I mean, they have money don’t they? They are rich so why can’t we just follow onto their footsteps on becoming successful and listen to what they say. They try to make themselves good on tv so that they can be “popular” and have even more money based on publicity. Rich people are at the top of the social ladder. This is why we follow those who are rich, and leave those who are poor behind.

The reason we like to see rich people on television is because we are wondering what they are going to do next; moreover, the way they live their lives is totally different to someone who does not have the freedom to afford much. It is like we are imagining that we are the ones living with luxury. It is almost like we are jealous of these rich people. By human nature, everybody believes that they will get a little bit happier if they had a lot of money to spend. I agree with Alyssa Rosenberg’s statement because it is relates to what I was saying. She is talking about how people are interested in what these rich people are doing. It is like we are experiencing what they are doing. Although it makes our lives look very bland and boring, the rich people we watch are so captivating.
I do agree with Mr. Levine that “greed is now normal”. We have all been greedy at some point in our lives. Nobody can ever say that they have not. It just a natural trait. This is a reason why I believe that it is acceptable. If the greed starts to take over then that is when it is no longer healthy, nonetheless, normal at all. Your life shouldn’t revolve around what you want. That is called being selfish. We should not let greed be the main factor of who you are. Even though greed is normal, it is not something that you stick to. You will slowly start to lose respect and acquaintances.
After searching up the word, “schadenfreude”, I found out that it is similar to the word “sadistic”. It seems like people are enjoying the pain of others. Peoples’ troubles just give the viewers a sense of excitement; similarly, I understand that feeling, too. Everytime I watched Jersey Shore, I ended up laughing at the end of the episode. It is because of the problems that occurred because of the cast’s actions. It was just enjoying to watch. I am not amused by the bad choices and desperation of the rich people on television. I just wonder what they are really thinking. I do not agree about this being a viewer’s main reason to why they watch these types of media. I believe that is based on the person themselves.
My favorite show that involves rich people would go to “Jersey Shore”. Although they do not show off their money, their lifestyle is very luxurious. They got to do anything they wanted. The problems at the end of the episode would just be very humorous to me, and I would be dying to see the next one. The way the men and women lived in Jersey Shore made it look like they were enjoying their lives. I could tell that they had all the money needed to make themselves satisfied. They did not seem to prioritize money which is what is a positive thing. To me, focusing on money is not a very healthy thing. Nobody should put money first. I believe that someone should have the amount of money that makes them happy. Nothing more or nothing less. Too much money is when you start to get greedy. I believe that if we have an excessive amount of money, then it will slowly get to our heads and we will no longer be able to think straight.

Why Do We Like To Watch Rich People On TV And In The Movies?

I believe people like to watch rich people on TV and in the movies for the following reasons: its not a regular lifestyle that one usually lives, people want to see how it’s like to be rich, and lastly to watch how rich people behave. Whenever anyone hears the word rich you immediately think of a person who is loaded with money. On TV and in the movies producers pick specific people to star in the actual TV show or a movie. Mainly to catch the public's attention on who is playing a specific role. So producers pick people who are rich and famous to catch the public's attention.

One reason why people or the public watch rich people on TV and in the movies is because they life an amazing lifestyle. TV and the movies only show the positives of being rich. How rich people have huge houses, expensive cars, clothes, and no worries whatsoever. People like to see these kinds of things in TV and the movies. People like to look how being rich can beneficial to them, to see if they are rich they can also live the same lifestyle you see rich people living in TV shows and in movies.

The second reason why people like to see rich people on the TV and in the movies is because people like to see what it’s like to be rich. Normally not many people are living in mansions, driving expensive cars, and wearing expensive clothing; in addition, many people just want to see on TV and on movies how its like being rich. Since, on TV and in the movies rich people are seen as important or higher people. The public just wants a taste of what life can be like if they were rich. Mostly because live being rich is shown as being really easy.

The third and last reason why people like to see people who are rich on TV and in the movies is because the public like to see how rich people behave and act. Usually when rich people behave in a bad way they always have a way of getting out of trouble. However, when a normal person who is not rich behaves badly there is no way to get rid if the consequences. Or it can be the exact opposite, instead of watching rich people behave badly the public can see them act funny. Such as on TV and in the movies as well, the public can see the rich people perform a funny role. One way or another when rich people act in a foul way, they always seem to get out of the trouble, were as other non rich people would be stuck with the consequences.

In conclusion many people like to see again and again people who are rich on TV and in the movies. For many reasons, but mainly to see how being rich can be a easy lifestyle to life. As well as seeing how it’s like to live being rich, to have no troubles whatsoever. Which leads me to the last reason people like to see how rich people act and behave on TV and in the movies. People can watch how rich people behave for two reasons one to see their bad behavior and see how they always end up getting out of the trouble with no consequences. Or to see them behave in a funny way, thats why some people like to watch TV or movies where the rich actor is playing a role that’s funny and entertaining.

there is many reasons for why I believe that we like to see rich people in TV and in the Movies , some of us like to imagine ourselves in their shoes with the latest technology , cool cars , and millions to spend on anything we please. Most of us have always thought of having millions of dollars at one point of our lives , it is mainly because we think that life with all of that money must be amazing since there is so much we don’t have to worry about when we have money ;therefore , we look up to rich people in the big screen and imagine ourselves in their shoes , we daydream with being like them someday and in some way it motivates us to try to succeed in our lives and studies in order to one day become like them .
another reason why we love watching rich people on tv and in the movies is for all the great technology that they have and that makes us wonder or at least entertain ourselves with what things would be great to do with that technology and what else we could make to fit or improve that technology plus since it looks so cool we all crave it and want to explore it even further or at least think of ways to make it real and make it happen .

finally another reason why we like seeing rich people on tv and in the movies is to see what our lives could be if we do great in school or a business and we also like seeing them because it could shows us how some of our friends and family members live their lives and allow us to compare and contrast our lives with theirs and decide what we want to be like or stay like in other words we like to see rich people on tv and on the movies to see what life is like with money .

Society thinks that the more money a person has the more power they have over everyone else. This reason being is because you’ll be better off in the world. Not all people think the way society puts things, and thats a good thing. Society makes people think that you get power by having money. Society makes people think that money is what makes the world go round. When people run out of money, which they will eventually, what will they do? Will they crash and burn since they have no power?
Everyone in their lifetime will come across something they want, but they know they can’t have it. Many people have a dream they want to pursue. The problem is that people give up on their dream to easily. They give up on their dream because they know it won’t ever happen, they don’t believe in themselves. They come to realization that it won’t help then get through life. Only the brave ones are the ones that take on that challenge of pursuing their dream.
We watch the rich on tv because those are the brave one that were willing to fail to make their dream reality. The rich are the ones that we wish are us. The rich are the ones that inspired us to dream, but sadly the dream faded away. People watch the rich because they were the ones who inspired us at first. It’s very possible for anyone to become rich because we were all born human. The rich are the ones that make us see where we went wrong in not pursuing our dream to become famous/rich.
Another very possible reason is to which why people like watching rich/famous people is because sometimes rich people are the ones that motivate us to do things. When you look at the lives of rich people sometimes you can relate to most of their stories. Then when people look at it they feel as if they can do it, like the way the rich/famous person did it. When people see that that person has a similar story as them, they think to themselves they can be successful like them as well.
There are many reasons as to which is why tons of people watch rich and famous people on tv. Some reasons as to this might be is because rich and famous people motivate them to do better things with their life. Another reason might be is because they once did have a dream like them, but they gave up on it. Now seeing rich and famous people on tv they think that the person on tv could have been them if they wouldn't have given up on their dream.

We watch rich people because we like to see how they work with their perfect lives. We idolize the way that they live and how they think as well. A lot of people like to watch them (including myself0) because we would compare our own life to theirs, seeing the big difference that most of the world has by them.
I agree with Farnoosh Torabi because it is true about how their fictional rich lives have can be more exciting than our lives. We see them live without any struggles, such as work, school, etc. We also see that they have the idol "teenage" and "adult" fantasy worlds.
I agree with Mr.Levine because it's true; everyone is greedy and it's like an everyday thing of us. We got use to the fact that greed has entered in our everyday lives. I may not know very well what the meaning of the word means, but I know very well that everyone has it with them in their everyday lives.
No I don't know what the word schadenfreude means. I am in the middle between what Alyssa said because most of the time we do judge about the type of actions that the rich actors do in their acting, but then at the same time we realize that it's all fake and just one fantasy world.
I mostly enjoy the show Prince of Bel Air because as we all know, Will Smith plays as the main character. It's fun to watch because he does some funny scenes and does a god job of acting. He has the characteristics of always making people laugh

There are a lot of reasons why we would like to see famous people on tv. Everyone has different takes on why they wish to see a certain person on tv but most of the reasons come down to just the way the celebrity acts on that show or movie. I personally look for many different things before I find myself actually wanting to see that celebrity. It all changes for people but it just mostly has to do with the popularity that actor has.
I personally need to know how famous the actor is. Honestly, if the celebrity isn’t well known it doesn’t give me interest in seeing the actor or show or movie. This really relates to how others view a celebrity on tv as well. If more people see and say if you yourself have seen this person act or have seen that movie and everyone talks about that show and actor you are more likely going to watch it because you want to be like everyone else and see the news that is going on. People react to attention a lot and so if many people gossip about this they are naturally interested and so many people like to see actors on tv for that specific reason.
If the actor is also playing a good role in a movie people and myself included tend to see the actor in other shows and such to see how well the celebrity performs in other places. They may just like that actor for that one specific character played or singer that sang a good song and so you see the actor on tv even though they aren’t as well as a celebrity as you thought at least that’s my views on it.
I just like to see a celebrity on the tv if they just are really talented over all. I know this actor has the talent to play so many different roles and characters that he interests me in seeing how he would be in a next film or such. The actor makes the movie or show more lifelike since it looks as if he/she is really in that situation making my interest grow in wanting to see that actor. I really just stick to a celebrity if they are really talented and well known.

The Rich attract people's attention. Everything about them seems so fascinating and great. Since regular (middle class) people don't have so many luxuries that rich people we're curious about what life is like for them. This makes us want to watch their lives.

Reality television shows us the lives we don't have, but really want. We can observe the drama of the rich people. We seem to think that their problems are so much more interesting. With people wanting only to use them for their money. Possibly just having trouble deciding something so simple.

We like to think that in some way we can be better than rich people. We comfort ourselves with these thoughts to help us get on with our own lives. Watching people with so much power act like petty and spoiled children help us to think that we're superior in a way.

Rich people are so interesting to us because we are looking up to them. Famous celebrities have a lot of money and set trends for the rest of us to foolishly follow. We blindly make these decisions because we are unsatisfied with our own lives. When we watch what the rich life is supposed to be like it feels good sometimes to see that these people we look up to, with so much power are just humans. They are no better than anybody else. They struggle with life just like the rest of us.

We are so interested by rich people's lives because we are so curious and nosy. We want to watch other people's lives so we may comfort ourselves. We want to see people that we thought were so great just live life as everyone else. Rich people's lives attract us because we want to live life as they do.

The The reason why I think we as people like to watch other people preferably rich people on TV is because we dream to be like them one day. What I mean by this is that we at a time hope and wish to be as rich as the people we see on these shows. Now a difference between this would be I want the fame and fortune but not the drama that come with it. I also think the drama plays a big role in why we watch this reality tv shows. I'm not gonna lie when I do watch these shows I like all the drama that goes on it's entertaining and funny to me but it is there life. I feel that in all it is really the drama that draws us to these tv shows and the money is just an extra. When I am looking if a tv show to watch I look for drama I never look to see if it is a show on the rich or the poor so I feel drama is what people really look for.

I agree with Bruce E. Levine expert the most. The reason why I agree with this expert is because I feel he proves a true point and that point would be that greed is all in society now a days. I feel greed is all throughout the world and anywhere. I am not saying having money is wrong but it starts to become wrong when they have plenty of money but they feel they don't have enough so strive and get more. That is when it becomes a problem I always say you only need enough money to survive and a little extra for something special in the future or now. Because in reality that is really all you will ever need.

I agree with Mr. Levine 100 percent. I do feel that greed is now normal in our society. I say this because I feel all everybody ever thinks about now a days is how much money they have. This is not wrong at all until it gets to the point where that is all they think about where is become a problem in their daily lives. Now, if you have to much money you feel you have a sense of power and control over what you want. That can never be good because then you feel you have and can control anything you want and that is never the case. It can be normal is you can control is but I do not think it is acceptable when it gets to a point when you can't control it at all.

I agree with Alyssa completely. I feel another big part why we watch these tv shows is because we like to judge the cast on them. For example me when I started watching The Kardashians was truly so I can see and watch what they do during their daily lives. I really started watching it because of Kim Kardashian just because she was very famous all throughout the media. In all I thought there lives would be completely different and crazy but it really wasn't but I think because of all the stories and information that was put on the media about The Kardashians that is why I started to watch it. In all it really meant I was going to judge them based in their lives and their actions. However, that isn't right but tons of people do this everyday.

The show I really enjoy that features rich people is The Kardashians.I love how much drama goes on in this show it is not only entertaining but it is funny. I do not think the drama completely drawled me to the tv show but the people who starred in it to. That played a big role in whether I was going to watch it or not. When I did start watching it it fascinated me that they had all these things and they never seemed to use everything they had. The reason why this fascinated me is because I kept asking myself would I do the same? meaning would I not use everything I had and it had me thinking I would honestly do the exact same thing. Similarly, if I had everything I wanted I would not use it all.

  46. There are countless reasons why "average" people like us like to watch famous people on t.v. We like to see how they act "behind the scenes", how "cool" their lifestyle really is, and just for the entertainment of it.
People hear all this negative, or amazing things that their favorite celebrity is doing and they want to see if that's in fact true. Watching these "reality" t.v shows helps give us a glimpse of what these people are really like. It's fun to see that their really just normal people like us, or real stuck up people like everyone says. I guess people just want the truth & feel that watching it gives them just that.
I think another part that people look forward to is seeing the cool places these famous get to go and how amazing their life is. It sounds weird saying it, but I'm sure we all wonder what it's like, and watching these shows shows us what they do everyday and what they get to experience. Maybe in some cases it's not at all what we expected it to be, maybe it is.
Overall people watch these shows for the entertainment of it. Whether it's actually real or not, we all enjoy the drama that comes along with it. I personally enjoy watching shows about famous people like Keeping Up With The Kardashians, & Juliana and Bill because I get the comedy and the drama all in one show. It's pretty cool seeing the daily life of famous people, and seeing how different they are from us.
Famous people on t.v aren't always popular among us, but there are the few of us that enjoy watching it, because it's entertaining.
